Kitchen and bathroom renovation in Chelmsford
Chelmsford brings us more extension work than anywhere else on our patch: an empty new shell that needs turning into a finished kitchen and dining space.
Fitting out a new extension is a different job from replacing a kitchen. The screed needs checking for moisture before any floor goes down, the plaster needs time to dry before decoration, and the first fix positions set by the builder are not always where the kitchen designer assumed. We survey the shell and reconcile the two before ordering anything.
In the older parts of the city and the surrounding villages, the work is more familiar: replacing a kitchen in a traditional layout, or a bathroom that has not been touched since the nineties.
Because we cover the electrics, plumbing, tiling and decoration ourselves, there is no waiting week between trades, which is where most extension fit outs lose time.

Finishing a rear extension near Springfield
The builder left a watertight shell with first fix in place. We moisture tested the screed, waited a further fortnight before laying LVT, then fitted the kitchen, tiled the splashback, installed the lighting and decorated the whole space.
Fourteen working days of our time, spread either side of the drying period, and the client had one point of contact for the entire fit out.

Questions from Chelmsford clients
- Can you fit out an extension another builder has built?
- Yes, that is regular work for us in Chelmsford. We survey the shell, check the first fix against the kitchen plan and flag any conflicts before materials are ordered.
- How long should a new screed dry before flooring?
- As a rule of thumb, one day per millimetre for the first 50mm. We take moisture readings rather than guessing, because laying too early is the most common cause of floor failure.
- Do you supply the kitchen or fit one I have bought?
- Either. We can supply through our trade accounts or install a kitchen you have already ordered, checking the delivery schedule against our programme.
- Which Chelmsford areas do you cover?
- The city and surrounding villages, including Springfield, Great Baddow, Writtle, Danbury and Boreham.
